Statement of ethical practice:

Throughout this project I have taken action to increase my sustainability. I digitally arranged my images to make the most economical use of printing paper. All paper wastage was put into the recycling. When creating my patterns, I used small scraps as the excess, rather than using new paper. By doing this, I saved a lot of paper wastage by using small pieces that would have been thrown away otherwise. I bought my final fabric from a local market, which reduces importation pollution and supports small businesses. The zip I used was second-hand, donated by a textiles teacher. I created my pattern and toile simultaneously, making my toiles in calico. By doing this, I achieved minimum fabric wastage with my final fabric and pattern paper. I considered the use of already owned fabrics, but none were appropriate for use. All thread and cotton used was material I already owned. Throughout my 3D experimentation I used scraps of calico that would have been thrown away. I also recycled an old duvet for scrap materials for said experimentation. For my styling choices, the makeup, shoes and tights were from my model. I bought the earrings second hand online, again reusing old objects and materials rather than purchasing newly manufactured products.

Statement of Ethical Practice

Throughout this project I have striven to be sustainable where I can, and have taken action

towards this on multiple fronts. When collating my visual research, I played around with

layouts and arrangements digitally so as to not waste masses of paper. Each sketchbook

page was planned, tested, and created this way. In comparison, throughout the WHITE

Project in term 1, I had to recycle masses of paper from cutting around images, having extra

printouts, and needing to cut up and completely redo pages. By moving this process to a

digital space for my Shirt Project, a lot of time and material has been saved, allowing me to

experiment and be more free with my sketchbook pages while being more efficient and

sustainable. In my practical work, when gathering fabric for the project, I bought materials

second hand in charity shops and the last of what was left in clearance sales. I used thread

and buttons I already owned. For the trousers, I combined two pairs that I had spare, which I

previously got second hand. In this way, I have striven to work efficiently and ethically, and

have taken action to elevate my practices to a more sustainable standard.
